"Welcome
to the world of succulent plants as elegant art."
|
I
have always loved gardens and growing things, but living on the
East coast, I got used to God watering them. When I came to Claremont,
I found divine watering sporadic at best, and many of my flowers
died. Imagine my delight when I discovered a type of plant that
was not only beautiful in its almost infinite variety of color
and form, but thrived on infrequent watering. Not only that, a
piece broken off and inserted in the earth would grow a whole
new plant!
I
began a succulent garden, begging pieces whenever I found a species
I didn't have. When Christmas came, I festooned the front door
with evergreens, only to them dry up and die in the Southern California
climate. Not wanting to buy more I made a wreath of my favorite
succulents. They not only lasted through January, they were still
alive and ready to plant when the wreath came down.
From
that I began making wreaths for friends and started selling them
through Bella Cosa Shoppe in Claremont and thus Desert Succulent
Creations was born.
